Iris Development

An interesting development…

As many of you may or may not have not noticed, We, at Volmit Software just released a Pre-Gen of iris in the early beta stages. Please, if you haven't already seen it, go check it out! We are really looking forward to your feedback and experiences with Iris; moreover we have a file that you can take a look at and respond to, to give us feedback as to what you want to see in Iris.

Catering To A Community

Most of the available World-Generators on the market today don't really look to the community for content or quality. Iris wants to be the first. We are here to listen to what you as a community want to see in a generator, and what you want to make out of it. Iris offers infinite possibilities to server owners and players alike. Some of the things we offer:
  • Custom Dimensions

  • Custom Biomes/Regions

  • Custom Terrain

  • Custom Builds (Trees, Houses, etc)

  • IDE Support for editing (VS Code for example)

  • And more, The possibilities are actually endless!

Many people also want a fantasy game-play experience- Without the survival (think role-play) that being all looks structures where players don’t actually get to build or anything. We have packs planned for post-release that are likely going to be on a Patreon that are complete overhauls of the worlds you know in Minecraft. For example: Cotton Candy world (everything is replaced with wool, concrete etc… all color), Petrified Worlds (Normal world, but everything is petrified stone), or even Mini-craft Where everything generates in a 2x-4x scale, SBT Simply Bigger Trees, and more. IRIS CAN DO ALL OF THIS! The default (nothing will be missing or hidden behind EA style expansions) full Beauty of iris will however be available to all who purchase Iris. We wanted to change what it means to have a world generator; Iris is and always will be more than that, more than a world generator. A new way to experience Minecraft.

Ease Of Use

Many server owners want a tailored experience for the players, Iris’s job is to be able to provide that, however the other world generation plugins don’t offer much customization in that regard.Iris however does! With easy customization for your average Joe all written in JSON(possible GUI in the future). On top of that all of the default packs you can see directly how we built them , layer by layer. This means that any server using iris can be a unique experience every time, and a different adventure for everyone, making every Iris server unique.

Lets Talk Speed

Iris in its current state with over 700 different trees, 60+ biomes, A Custom decorator, and layer system, (and more) is running about as fast as a vanilla world (faster / slower in some places) but around the 30-35ms average mark per chunk with all features active, while others are around 200ms-300ms+ per chunk! If you are a server owner and like to pregen your world a normal pregen with an alternative generator can take upwards of days if you are trying to gen 5,000-x-5,000 worlds; with iris it will take just over 2.5 hours (CPU speed may vary) on top of that, you can play as if you are in vanilla (not pre-generating) and have a mostly painless experience!

Iris is also Very light on memory! Using a Whopping 500mb to generate a world, and unloading schematics / content it does not need to keep your server from leaking memory all over the kitchen floor. In out testing giving a server 10gb of memory, and letting iris run a 5,000x5,000 pregen; iris was able to clean up at the end to keep the server running without a restart. (given you should restart anyway just in case we missed a spot)

Support And Issues

Feel free to head over to out Discord and tag a support member, or just ask the question in the chat. If you are still unsure on if you will like iris or not, we have pregens available that will be in the Software>Iris>pregen space on this site! Plus if you don't see a feature that you want make a post and tag Psycho to see if it can be added or reworked!

Thank you,
Volmit Team.
